Using Credit Cards

The following instructions describe using a Burrell Business Systems’ credit card system, like the DatacapXml module.

Tendering a Sale
Regular Sale
- Subtotal the sale
- Type the amount to charge the credit card, without the decimal point. For example, to tender $12.00: 1200Credit Card
- OR Press the Credit Card button to charge the remaining balance to the card.
- When prompted, swipe the credit card through the card reader.
- OR Manually enter the card’s account number 1234567890123456Enter
- When prompted, enter the expiration date, in MMYYYY format. For February 2007: 022007Enter
- When prompted, answer the CVV question by pressing either Yes or No.
- If the card has a CVV value, enter it now. For example: 123Enter
- OR If the number is illegible, press No when prompted.
- If the card has a CVV value, enter it now. For example: 123Enter
If the credit card is approved, the terminal will print out a receipt for the customer to sign.
Voice Authorization Sale
You only need to use this tender if the previous system specifically instructs you to do so.
- Subtotal the sale
- Type the amount to charge the credit card, without the decimal point. For example, to tender $12.00: 1200Credit Card VOICE
- OR Press the Credit Card VOICE button to charge the remaining balance to the card.
- When prompted, swipe the credit card through the card reader.
- OR Manually enter the card’s account number 1234567890123456Enter
- When prompted, enter the expiration date, in MMYYYY format. For February 2007: 022007Enter
- When prompted, answer the CVV question by pressing either Yes or No.
- If the card has a CVV value, enter it now. For example: 123Enter
- OR If the number is illegible, press No when prompted.
- If the card has a CVV value, enter it now. For example: 123Enter
- Call the voice authorization number provided by your processor (the “credit card company”, not Burrell Business Systems).
- Enter the value the operator provides you. For example, 124567Enter
If the credit card is approved, the terminal will print out a receipt for the customer to sign.
Tendering a Return
Some stores are configured to use a single Credit Card tender for both sales and returns. In that case, you would use the normal Credit Card tender for returns rather than the Credit Card RETURN one listed below.
Regular Return
- Enter the return items as normal.
- Subtotal the sale
- Type the amount to return to the credit card, without the decimal point. For example, to tender -12.00: -1200Credit Card RETURN Note the negative sign.
- OR Press the Credit Card RETURN button to return the remaining balance to the card.
- When prompted, swipe the credit card through the card reader.
- OR Manually enter the card’s account number 1234567890123456Enter
- When prompted, enter the expiration date, in MMYYYY format. For February 2007: 022007Enter
- When prompted, answer the CVV question by pressing either Yes or No.
- If the card has a CVV value, enter it now. For example: 123Enter

Common Errors
Timed-out
The transaction timed-out. Please retender.
The processor did not respond within the timeout period. Attempt to re-tender the sale. If this problem occurs again, check your system’s Internet connectivity.
